Happy New Year, everyone!
I had one of the most amazing holiday weeks of my entire life. I’m so sad that it went by so incredibly fast, but it’s left me with memories that I will always remember!
Last Friday, the 22nd, my family and I hosted our annual Holiday Party where all our family, friends, and neighbors come together and just hang out. To spread the holiday spirit, we have everyone bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the needy families/children in the surrounding area. As I mentioned in a previous post, giving back is extremely important to me, especially during the holiday season. I’m pretty sure we donated over 50 toys this year!
On the 23rd, my friends and I had our annual Christmas celebration. I got this funny af game from our white elephant exchange, which I 10/10 recommend. If you’re lucky to have friends as hilarious as mine, you’ll end up crying from laughter while playing the game. Check it out here.
Later that night, we went out to Blue J in the Arts District. It’s been a while since I went out with my friends from home, and it was a great time, to say the least.
Christmas Eve and Day were super great as well! It gave me so much time to spend with my loved ones, and that’s truly what’s important… But, the super awesome gifts from my family didn’t hurt. My mom surprised me and got me the new iPhone 8! Totally was not expecting that. My parents are also getting me Adidas NMDs. I’ve never talked about them on here before, but I have wanted a pair for THE LONGEST time! They are a bit pricey for sneakers (like $130 to give you an idea), and I personally just haven’t been able to justify buying them for myself. Now, I don’t have to!
I think the most shocking present I received was from my boyfriend. I haven’t blogged about him yet, but I will soon! Let’s just say, I grew up loving musicals, Disney, all that jazz, and my boyfriend has only seen 4 Disney movies in the past 26 years of his existence, and HATES musicals! For Christmas, he bought me tickets to Spamilton, which is a spoof on Spamalot and Hamilton, and he surprisingly really liked it and thought it was funny… I definitely think more musicals are in his future 🙂
On Saturday, my mom and I saw Hamilton on THE LAST DAY it was in Los Angeles. I’ve been a HUGE fan of the music for the past year (honestly, I finally listened to it after Trump got elected, and it brought me great hope and helped me cope… lol sounds dramatic, but that music is something I definitely needed), so being able to get affordable tickets to see it live made me cry lol. Let me tell you, going from listening to it on Spotify to being fully immersed in the production is life changing. The actors were so amazing, and totally made the songs/story their own. Ryan Vasquez played Aaron Burr, and I was like, “Wow, they cast him perfectly! His voice totally fits what I think of when I think Burr!” And then, I went into the Playbill only to realize Ryan was not the understudy, or even the understudy’s understudy! He was part of the ensemble!!! Mind. Blown.
I don’t know if you guys care about this as much as I do, but oh my God. If you like music, musicals, acting, etc., do yourself a favor and watch Hamilton at least once in your lifetime! My mom never listened to the music before watching, and she was literally sobbing for 20+ minutes after the production. It was life changing. I feel so incredibly blessed to have been able to see it.
On New Year’s Eve, my boyfriend and I went to Dave Chappelle and John Mayer’s “Controlled Danger” show. You know I would post pictures from the show if I could have, but the Forum prohibited us from using phones. They even made us lock them in these security pouches to keep people from using them… even though some people totally ripped through them so they could use them.
The show was so much fun! Probably one of the best ways to ring in the New Year! I’ve never seen Dave Chappelle’s specials on Netflix, Comedy Central, the Chappelle Show, NOTHING. I knew that I’d be getting these tickets for my boyfriend’s Hanukkah present, so I wanted the first time I saw his comedy to be in person. Let me just say, I have no regrets. Also, John Mayer has been one of my many celebrity crushes since I was in high school, and holy crap, his looks, his voice, plus his guitar skills makes him sexy AF! One of Prince’s tour musicians was in the crowd, and he played a heartfelt tribute to Prince, and later revealed that STEVIE freaking WONDER was in the crowd! Stevie sang a little song, and it was just so amazing to be able to see him perform. I actually saw him at my friend’s high school graduation. She went to LA County High School of the Arts (or whatever LACHSA stands for lol), and one of her classmates was Stevie Wonder’s nieces, so he played a surprise performance there as well. Anyway, it was just awesome to be in his presence… even if I was like 600 feet away from him in the nosebleeds haha. To ring in the New Year, Dave and John had us sing “Killing Me Softly” together, and it was just so cool to sing a song in unison with 10,000 other people. Truly magical.
Being able to start 2018 alongside my boyfriend was probably the most special thing for me. This is the 3rd NY we’ve been lucky to spend together, and I just know our already great adventure together is only going to shine brighter this year.
2018 is going to be a great year for all of us! I just know it! 🙂 How did you ring in the New Year? Comment below 🙂 I’d love to hear from you all!
Happy New Year, everyone!
